I got an email, but I'm not sure if its legit or not. The sender is a yahoo member. Is there any way to search by email address to pull up a profile? I don't want to respond without knowing a little more, since I'm scared of spyware/adware. Thanks.

Federal law strictly limits the information that online service providers like Yahoo! may disclose about their users. However, the email message itself contains some information relating to the sender's identity. In the headers of email messages sent via Yahoo! Mail, an Internet Protocol (IP) address that corresponds to the sender's Internet service provider (ISP) is included.





At the top of a message (above the date) is a line reading either "Standard Header" or "Compact Header." Click on this link, and a menu will drop down with an option for "Full Header." If you select "Full Header," a new window pops up containing the full header of the message. See it? It's got tons of computer gobbledygook, but it also has some information you can use.





You should be able to find a line that contains an 8 to 12 digit number, separated by periods. It might look something like this:

The "123.456.78.91" represents the unique IP address of the sender's ISP. Once you identify the IP address, you can run a "whois" search to determine which ISP provides this person with Internet access. If there's more than one Received: line, read them from top to bottom (the topmost is the most recent.)





There are several utilities available on the web to run a whois search. Here's one web site that can help you to determine which service provider is responsible for the IP address:

I would 1st do a Disc Cleanup and a Disc Defragment before I did a System Restore. Then reboot... But you could just try going back a day or so if need be ...

Reply:If you are a Virgin Media customer you might want to try this because it worked for me:


In Internet Explorer


Choose Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Connections


Under Dial-Up and Virtual Private Network Settings, if there is an entry in there select it and choose the Settings button


If not then choose the LAN Settings button instead


Now click to add a tick to the box which says Use a proxy server for this connection OR Use a proxy server for your LAN or something similar.


In the Address: box type - webcache.virginmedia.com


In the Port: box type 8080


Click OK and OK again and restart Internet Explorer


You might also need to change back to Yahoo! Classic.

ok. after clicking the button "forward" and get the blank page, just click the "refresh" button of your IE and it will display the page.
Reply:Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. If you look you will find lots of people cannot send/receive/delete mail at the moment. I was advised to uninstall Javascript and then reinstall the latest version from http://www.java.com/. You could also try http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer for the latest Flash player. This worked for me. If it does not for you then apparently it's only in the all new version. Try returning to the Classic version for now. Reply:Go to your email page and in the upper right side click on Options then on Mail Options. On the next page click on general preferences and at the top of the next page you can edit the name you want to use on All Out Going Emails. Be sure and click on the save button to save your changes.


Also if you are using a program such as Outlook, Thunderbird etc, you need to alter your name within your account option, otherwise that will still send out your old name because it bypasses the setting in Yahoo on the web

When receiving a message with imbedded pictures in the text of the message a lot of times there will be a space where the picture should be and no picture. If I click on the small X box and select down load picture nothing happens.

Let me explain.





Go to http://profiles.yahoo.com and click "Edit my profiles."





Here you'll be able to add another "profile" making your account synonymous with multiple usernames; you will now be able to log in with this username and additionally people will be able to email you at username@yahoo.com. This username will have all of the same capabilities of your original.





To stop the spammers now, go to "Filters" under "Mail Options" and set it to block any emails with your old username in the "TO" field.





I think this will have the same effect you were hoping for, but just going about it a different way. Good luck!

No they can't. I rather suspect a phishing scheme, especially if the place asked for financial data.





Of course if the purchase order was legitimate, it may be that the email address was entered incorrectly by the purchaser.

When you are in your mail, click options at the top right, then mail options. On that page click "Block Addresses". Type in the address you want blocked, click add block.


You won't get no more or they will go into your spam folder, however you have it set up.


If you you have it set to automatically delete spam, you will never receive them. Otherwise they will go to your spam folder until the time they have been there a certain amount of time and then they will delete.


So if you don't want to receive them at all on the same page as "Block Addresses" you can click "Spam Protection" and change how long you want emails to stay in your spam folder before yahoo deletes them or you can choose the option to delete them immediately.

have the same problem. I have been attempting to resolve this for a couple of days now. Do your attachments come in with something like " .eml (a number) K or B" instead of jpeg, gif or bitmap, or MPP, etc? That is the culprit. When I go to open my attachments, it gets kicked over to Outlook and then just dies there - nothing else happens!


Some times I get a window that says "This file does not have a program association with it for performing this action...." and then suggests you create a file. I don't know what the heck they are talking about, so I am referring you to: 1-877-722-3755 (Yahoo help line) and ask for an advanced technician for the remedy. GOOD LUCK!! I plan to call tomorrow.

Seems to be a Yahoo problem. BUT here is a solution, log out of your Yahoo account and re-login and you will be able to access your e-mail. Sounds waste of time, but it works.

I asked a similar question recently. What helped was doing a full system scan with anti-virus/anti-spyware programme.


The problem hasn't come up since so I imagine regular scanning and keeping the software up to date has solved the problem.

many will say you cant - but they're wrong. i know cause i had it working on my old pc w/ xp pro and office 2003. still trying to tweak it on vista thought (which sucks, by the way). first step is to download and install a free program called YPOPs! which i recommend getting from downloads.com so that u wont get any unwanted attachments w/ it. start it up (i recommend putting a shortcut in ur startup menu) and once it is running, open outlook. click on tools in the menu bar %26gt; email accounts. tell it to add a new email account and click next. fill out user name boxes, making sure to add @yahoo.com to the email address one. for server info, type in localhost for both incoming and outgoing servers. for logon information, type ur email address (include @yahoo.com) and then type in your password. i find it useful to have it remember the password, but thats just a personal preference of mine. now click on more settings, and on the outgoing server tab, check my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. select use same settings as my incoming mail server, then press ok. that window will go away. click next, and then finish. send yourself a test email from your yahoo account using the website, or use another email account (recommended) if you have one. let me know if u have any problems. enjoy!

Yahoo does not block email unless it is recognized as mail going to many people at the same time. ONLY Yahoo Plus has a private spam filter.

The domain is the part following the @ such as "fanboxmail.com". That's the part you want to add to your block list. It should prevent any emails coming to yoyu from fanboxmail.com.

When you have 2 completely separate Yahoo accounts the only way to automatically forward from one to the other is if the forwarding account is a Plus account.





You can have alternate addresses for a Yahoo ID that goes to the same email but it must be originally set up as an alternate. It can't be set up once the second account is already open.

there is actually another post on this. Apparently, you need to upgrade to Yahoo mail plus -which costs $19.99 (a month??) to get your mail directed on to you through Opera.





Haha as if anyone should pay that for free mail, right? So, consider swapping to Gmail- opera will receive it no problem.
