How can I find out if a yahoo email address is legit?

I got an email, but I'm not sure if its legit or not. The sender is a yahoo member. Is there any way to search by email address to pull up a profile? I don't want to respond without knowing a little more, since I'm scared of spyware/adware. Thanks.

How can I find out if a yahoo email address is legit?
How do I find out who sent the email?

Federal law strictly limits the information that online service providers like Yahoo! may disclose about their users. However, the email message itself contains some information relating to the sender's identity. In the headers of email messages sent via Yahoo! Mail, an Internet Protocol (IP) address that corresponds to the sender's Internet service provider (ISP) is included.

At the top of a message (above the date) is a line reading either "Standard Header" or "Compact Header." Click on this link, and a menu will drop down with an option for "Full Header." If you select "Full Header," a new window pops up containing the full header of the message. See it? It's got tons of computer gobbledygook, but it also has some information you can use.

You should be able to find a line that contains an 8 to 12 digit number, separated by periods. It might look something like this:

Received: from [123.456.78.91] by . . .

The "123.456.78.91" represents the unique IP address of the sender's ISP. Once you identify the IP address, you can run a "whois" search to determine which ISP provides this person with Internet access. If there's more than one Received: line, read them from top to bottom (the topmost is the most recent.)

There are several utilities available on the web to run a whois search. Here's one web site that can help you to determine which service provider is responsible for the IP address:

If the spam or abusive email is being sent from a Yahoo! Mail account and you are not using Yahoo! Mail, please forward an unedited copy of the message with full headers to abuse@yahoo.com.

We'll evaluate the situation and take action per our Terms of Service. Spamming from a Yahoo! Mail account is not acceptable.
Reply:Actual Yahoo address will have a domain key next to the email address that authenticates that it is really from the yahoo domain.

Reply:if you send a email to an address that does not exist, you will get the email back telling you that the address does not exist, and the email did not go through.

and sending a email to a email address will not give you spyware/adware, I don't know who told you that......
Reply:Check to see if they have a 360 account.
Reply:right hi and test it out.
Reply:If you are not sure, delete it . It is better to lose something you are not sure of then getting a virus.

There is no way to check the mail to see if it is legit.

My motto is, if I don't know who sent it , "delete".

It is not worth the risk.

I would rather lose one email than crash my computer.

When you are in compose e-mail %26gt; you should be able to click on ATTACH %26gt; then BROWSE %26gt;go to where your pics are and click on them... They should automatically attach...

Put your own e-mail address in your contacts list and experiment by sending to yourself 1st..... Hope this helps...........

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Yahoo email services?

I have been with Yahoo email for years but lately I have had alot of problems sending and receiving attachments. This is a very important feature to me because of my job.

I need an email client (preferably free) that will be as good or better than Yahoo, since I have been happy up until now, and I certainly wouldn't want to take a step backwards. It would be great if someone knows of one that will allow me to send attachments larger than 10 mb, which is Yahoo's limit, however I am open to all suggestions!

Thank you for your time!

I don't have an answer to this....I am having the same problem. When someone sends me an email that has pictures in it and I want to pass on, the receiver gets just "red X's". I am not really computer savvy, so can someone explain this to me in detail?
